Success was measured differently, and buy n large, d2 back then was equally as big a success as d3 ever amounted to, possibly even more considering at the time of its creation, gaming was actually viewed by many household parents as a serious problem versus today, where parents basically let the internet raise their kids. Blizzard tried to curb the fan's expectations on a blog post that appeared on the Diablo III website, which basically said. the majority of players had crap computers that played at 6fps, but on top of that, roughly like 15% of players also had microphones versus today, where I haven’t encountered anybody who doesn’t. Blizzard had been hyping up a new Diablo announcement for a while now, which led many fans to believe that Diablo IV or the rumored Netflix Diablo animated series were going to be announced at Blizzcon. everyone knows classic is easier MOSTLY because of technical reasons. it’s like trying to compare the difficulty of wow’s original game, versus today’s classic. hell most households still didn’t even have a pc at that time, much less one that could run it however, as a continuation of their franchise, it raked in so much money compared to other games it made other game companies want to puke. D2 did not have the numbers d3 did because it was not built in the same era where gaming was universal.
